The Two Princesses of Bamarre

Bibliographic Information: Levine, Gail Carson. The Two Princesses of Bamarre. New York: HarperCollins, 2001. Print.

Brief Annotation: This book is about two sisters who are princesses of Bamarre.  The eldest sister gets sick with an illness that is causing death to many of the people in their kingdom.  The youngest sister who is extremely shy must get past a lot of her fears and try to find the cure to save her sister and her kingdom.

Genre: Fiction

Grade Level: 4th Grade-8th Grade

Reader who will like this: Students who enjoy fairy tales and books that are suspenseful will really enjoy this one.  I think that more girls will enjoy than boys but there may be a few boys that would like it as well.

Rating/Response: 5, this is a great book that had me hooked from the minute I started reading it until the very end.  It is easy to understand and it is also easy to read grammatically.  This book is suspenseful and will keep students on their toes.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: At what lengths would you go to save someone you love?

Reading Strategy: Free Choice (Chapter)

Rationale for Strategy: This is a great story and although I am sure it could be taught using a certain technique, I would consider it to be more of a free choice read.
