Rating/Response: 4 The illustrations are simple, but their simpleness only adds to the deeper meaning of the text.  This is a story with an incredibly powerful meaning.

Rationale for Strategy: This book has so many opportunities for students to use reading strategies so it makes sense to focus on synthesizing.
