Bibliographic Information: Seuss, Dr. The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories. 2011. Print.
Brief Annotation: This is a collection of short Dr. Seuss stories.
Grade Level: k-6
Readers who will like this: Children who like stories that rhyme, children who enjoy Dr. Seuss, or children who enjoy stories that teach important messages.
Rating/Response: 4 This is a fantastic way to reach all of greatness of Dr. Seuss, but it is much shorter and quicker to read for a mini lesson.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: I would probably use this to teach one of they ehyming phonics strategies so I would ask a question related to what I wanted to teach. If I was just reading it for fun, I would ask them a different question depending on the story. For example, if I was reading The Bippolo Seed, I would ask the students if they have ever been so greedy that something bad happened.
Reading Strategy: Free Choice
Rationale for Strategy: This is a book that I believe that all teachers should have on their shelves. It is so much shorter than many Dr. Seuss, but it is just as phenomenal. It is a great text to teach a mini-lesson when you need rhyming words.
