Teach us, Amelia Bedelia

Bibliographic Information: Parish, Peggy, and Lynn Sweat. Teach Us, Amelia Bedelia. New York: Greenwillow, 1977. Print.

Brief Annotation: This book is about a maid, Amelia Bedelia who was mistaken for the new teacher. She was left alone to teach a classroom all by herself.

Grade Level: 3-5

Readers who will like this: Children who likes school and have a big imagination.

Rating/Response: 4 I thought this book was a great read because it can show what a person misinterpret with instructions.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: What do you think Amelia Bedelia will teach? How do you think she would teach like?

Reading Strategy: Synthesizing

Rationale for Strategy: This book would be great for synthesizing because Amelia Bedelia took her instruction very literal. This will allow students to see certain words differently, using their prior knowledge to learn something new.
