Bibliographic Information: Frazee, M. (2008). A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever. New York: Harcourt.
Brief Annotation: James and Eamon spend a week with Eamon’s grandparents so they can go to a nature camp. They do a lot of fun things, but the last thing they do is what makes the week the “best week ever.”
Grade Level: 3-6
Readers who will like this: Children who like people their own age as the main characters; children who like nature; children who like stories about friendship.
Rating/Response: 3 I thought this book was very funny – there is a sort of subtle, sarcasm-like humor in the book. It’s fun to predict what the boys might do next or figure out how they really feel about situations.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever spent time at someone else’s house?
Reading Strategy: Inferences
Rationale for Strategy: This book would make a good book for teaching inferences because you really have to read “between the lines” to see how the characters really feel about the situations in the book and to understand some of the humor.
