Cloudy With a Chance of Meat Balls

Bibliographic Information: Barrett, Judi. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. New York: Atheneum Books for Young Readers, 1978. Print.

Brief Annotation: This story has been a long time children’s classic.  It was recently made into a motion picture and is adored by children all over the country.  It is an imaginary story where food of all sorts simply falls from the sky for people to eat whenever they want.  What more could children dream of other than falling ice cream and sprinkles.

Genre: Fiction

Grade Level: K-3

Readers who will like this: Readers who enjoy visualizing the impossible in their imaginations.

Rating/ Response: 5 – This story is one of a kind!  Each page makes you craving for more.  It is also great in that the grandfather reports the story to his children.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: What do you wish would fall from the sky, if anything was possible?

Reading Strategy: Visualization

Rationale for Strategy: Students will enjoy creating in their own minds, what the pictures within the book show very little of.
