Brief Annotation: It’s Amelia Bedelia’s first day of school, and she is extremely energetic and excited to begin.

Genre: Juvenile Fiction

Grade Level: Pre-K-3

Readers who will like this: Children starting their first day of school or teachers beginning their first year of teaching in a classroom.

Rating/Response: 5 I love Amelia Bedelia books because of the spirit that is portrayed through her.  She is a carefree, energetic, and excited learner in every book.  She takes everything literally which leads to some funny and interesting situations!

One question you would ask before a read aloud: What feelings did you have coming in for the first day of school today?  Have they changed since you have arrived?

Reading Strategy: First Days/New Experience

Rationale for Strategy: This book is geared towards the first day of school.  It works perfectly for a first day of school reading for students to get excited about the classroom or about school in general.
