Readers who will like this: Children during the first few weeks of school who are starting to get used to the new classroom library. Children who do not like reading books or do not believe that there are books out there that they will like.
Rating/Response: 4 This books shows how exciting books can be and that everyone can find books to read; students just have to figure out what things they like to read about. Miss Brooks’ wacky outfits are fun, too!
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever had trouble finding books you enjoy and/or were interested in reading? How did you feel when you couldn’t find books about subjects you like to read about?
Reading Strategy: First Days
Rationale for Strategy: This book would make a great read aloud during the first days when the teacher is introducing students to the classroom library. We can find students in all grades that do not like books or just have trouble finding books they like to read, so this book is great for showing students that they can find books they will love.
