Immi’s Gift

Bibliographic Information: Littlewood, Karin. (2010). Immi’s Gift. Atlanta: Peachtree Publishers.

Brief Annotation: Immi goes ice fishing one day and catches a little wooden bird. Soon she catches more colorful things, but where are all these things coming from?

Genre: Fiction/Mystery

Grade Level: K-2

Readers who will like this: Children who like learning about life in colder environments; children who like mysteries and testing their theories and predictions about the story while reading to see if they are true.

Rating/Response: 3 This book has beautiful painted illustrations and a really cute story. It’s fun to question where the things Immi finds are coming from.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever found something that you thought was really interesting and wondered where it came from? Explain.

Reading Strategy: Questioning

Rationale for Strategy: This book would be great for practicing the “questioning” reading strategy because there are many opportunities for students to question what’s happening in the story and to make predictions about the story.
